Yesterday was the first open house at the latest home to list up Saint Louis Heights. I went by the very  busy open house to take a look at it. This home offers a down-slope terraced lot with a view toward Waikiki. The home is also split-level with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath with a full kitchen upstairs and a 1 bedroom and bath with a kitchenette downstairs. It is also located at the end of a cul-de-sac, Alencastre Place [Google Maps], offering a level roadway approaching the home's driveway. This is not a common feature of most of the homes up this ridge. The home is listed by One Realty, Inc. for $775,000. 

Saint Louis Heights has many areas that boast amazing views. Last night was the world famous Nagaoka Fireworks Show that ends the Honolulu Festival. Below are a few photos that I took with my phone from the Kaminaka area of Saint Louis Heights.

The listing details shows a 2 car carport and this is not common to find on the ridge. Happy to say that we all seem to be fine here in Hawaii this morning.

Last night, Hawaii experienced another Tsunami Warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. I learned about it at about 745pm while I was out in Hawaii Kai with Lola at the Halloween Spooktacular. Luckily, we were able to get on the road and head back home before the roads got all jammed up and closed. To get home from Hawaii Kai to Saint Louis Heights, it normally requires driving along Kalanianaole Highway unless you go around the Windward side and Kalanianaole Highway will almost always be closed to traffic if there is a tsunami warning because it runs right along the shore, just yards away from the water and in the inundation zone.

This leads me to the topic of buying a home in Hawaii in an area categorized as a flood zone by FEMA. We have had a few tsunami warnings in the recent years and we've been relatively lucky with the amount of damage that Hawaii's coastal areas have experienced. What would it mean to you and how would it affect your decision on where to buy your home? Would you be comfortable purchasing a beach front home or any home in an A or AE Floodzone?

Just a thought... anyway, you can check if an address is in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center's evacuation zone by putting into the search at their link here: http://ptwc.weather.gov/ptwc/hawaii.php.

While this tsunami warning caused a slightly abrupt end to our fun night at the Halloween Spooktacular, I am really impressed that I received the Google Public Alert on my Android phone prior to the Hawaii Civil Defense Warning Sirens going off for the first alert. It allowed me to be aware and get on the way home before the panic and the traffic became a mess!

Tonight is the 2nd "Third Fridays Kaimuki" event and it's also Halloween themed. We brought Lola to last month's Third Fridays Kaimuki and checked it out. There wasn't a lot out on the sidewalks or street so we couldn't really do much since we had Lola with us. The event did draw a large crowd and could be a nice evening to walk around Kaimuki to get familiar with the neighborhood if you aren't yet.

This morning was the Hawaiian Humane Society's PetWalk at Magic Island.We managed to make it out there just in time for the start. I was not expecting to see such a large crowd of people and pets! I really expected to drive in to Ala Moana Beach Park around 730am, park the car and get Lola walking over to check it out. When we arrived, we saw packs of dogs being walked across Ala Moana Boulevard after they parked at the shopping center, where we eventually ended up parking after making through the beach parking traffic.

Lola appears to have enjoyed the morning at the PetWalk. We weren't too sure how it would turn out because Lola doesn't seem to really enjoy walking outdoors that much. She also hasn't really met and interacted with so many dogs before. I think she is already looking forward to the next PetWalk!

Tonight is the night! 

What night you ask? The Good Table dinner night. You may recall last year I had dinner at Ola Restaurant for The Good Table dinner. That was an amazing evening with great friends. Tonight's dinner will be at Indigo Hawaii in downtown. This one night of dining out is Lanakila Pacific's annual fundraising event to "Turning one meal into many..." 

What is The Good Table?

The Good Table is an island-wide dining event to benefit Lanakila Meals on Wheels. On Thursday, October 4th at 6PM people will sit down to a special dinner where they will be treated like VIPs! 

Tables are purchased in advance and a unique dining experience is created by the chef and staff. Your participation turns one meal into many for Hawaii’s kupuna!

This will be the my third year participating in this unique dining event and I am very excited. The past years got me wondering how I could make the night a little more interesting, but I never really had the time to thoroughly think about what I wanted to do. I didn't really thoroughly think it through this year either, but really, it's actually been rolling around in my mind somewhere all year long so I'm going for it!

Tonight's The Good Table event is not only to raise funds for Lanakila Pacific Meals on Wheels, but it is also to raise awareness. Since I don't have a large amount of funds to work with, I thought I'd do something extra to assist with raising awareness of the event. I got a hold of a few rolls of quarters and I'm going to drop one quarter into a pot/cup/bucket/napkin or whatever is around on our table tonight for each of the following occurrences between 530p and 930p tonight:

1.  I receive a notice that a Tweet sent from @RickNakama that contains the #TheGoodTable hashtag, @LanakilaPacific and a link to a photo that I took has been "ReTweeted".
2. My Instagram (@RickNakama) will be the main host of my #TheGoodTable photos. For each "like" any Instagram that I post with #TheGoodTable hashtag gets. 
3. Each Facebook "like" of #TheGoodTable Instagram photo.
4. Each Facebook comment that mentions and tags both Lanakila Pacific and The Good Table in the comment on one of my #TheGoodTable Instagram photos.

At 930p tonight, each quarter that makes it into the pot will be donated to Lanakila Pacific. If I run out of quarters, I will tweet out that I have donated all my quarters and my bonus fund is maxed out. The results will be based according to my personal semi real time accounting of those events that I said I will track. Seems like fun and I'm curious to see what kind of activity this will raise. If not much difference, oh well... if it's a lot, I may be broke by 930p tonight! Hahahaha!

I just wanted to share that I had a chance to experience a few hours with Scion's latest vehicle, the FR-S. It's the new release based on the classic Toyota Corolla 86 or Hachi-Roku chassis heritage. I think the car looks beautiful and it handles extremely well in it's factory form. This is just a little added share based on my automotive industry history.

Back in June, I visited a new listing up Wilhelmina Rise. I posted it on instagram with my "#RealtyRickSees" has tag. I am adding it today to my "What did it sell for?" tag on this blog. The list price was $889,000 (by Mary Worrall Associates) and it showed very well and attracted a lot of interest during the open house.

I went out to SCCA Autocross yesterday. I haven't been out to race my car since 2004! This was a very unexpected and last minute decision. It's part of this project that I have been working on with a team of others. Anyway, I don't think I really need to say this, but I had a lot of fun and I'm happy I paid for SCCA membership this season. I'm going to be out there more regularly.

Here's a little video clip of one of the fun runs at the end of the day. I was not driving as crazy as I usually do in this run because I was trying to figure out how to get the line to that last gate more smoothly.

Puppy Starter kit that Lola received
at Surf Paws yesterday.

Lola has been keeping us quite busy the last couple of weeks. Yesterday she had her first visit to the vet with us. I decided to try Surf Paws Animal Hospital because it is right next to my office. It seemed quick and painless for her to receive her shot. The moments leading up to her shot she seemed very nervous, but didn't flinch a bit when the shot was administered.

Anyway, sent out several offers this week and some have been accepted so there were a lot of escrow opening documents to work on and I haven't been able to stop at Beach Bum Cafe for a delicious cup of coffee all week. Since there was a special celebration in Chinatown at Adega Portuguesa this morning (free malasadas), I decided to head in to downtown. The malasada was warm and delicious! If you have a chance and they still have any left, go pick one up. After I picked up my malasada, I walked to Beach Bum Cafe to coffice (check the hotsheet and post my blog, etc.) and enjoy a cup of Kau Washed Process Yellow Caturra - a very delicious cup! I won't be able to enjoy this for a week or so because I'll be going with Kelli to her VA Conference in Oklahoma City. Hopefully I can find some good coffee there to coffice over.  :)

In today's post, I'm going to start a new blog label called "what did it sell for?" I have posted about certain properties that I was tracking to see what they sell for, but I haven't actually created a label to categorize the post in my blog. I thought that it's about time I do to make it easier to find.

ML:1205949 (1741 Bertram Street) came on the market on 5/28/12. It was described as needing "Major Repairs" in the listing and also required an appointment to see it. I couldn't see it because it was difficult to coordinate an available time and was not offered an opportunity that worked out before they made a decision on working with an offer they already had. I wrote about that  here: June 2, 2012 post.

On this morning's hotsheet, I saw that the sale of ML:1205949 recorded at $500,000, cash. This is not surprising. Now to see if the new owner repairs the home or tears it down to build a new house. I'm guessing they will build a new home.
